People often ask me how many solar panels they will need to power their house, and how much a solar system would cost them. Unfortunately, my response usually is that i’ll have to calculate that and get back to them.
The cost of solar systems is heavily dependent on the climate they’ll operate in, so your solar system will cost you more if you live in a cloudy climate (but there are exceptions to this rule, such as Germany), and less in a sunny climate. This is due to the fact that cloudy areas require larger solar systems than sunny ones, because they receive less sunlight.
I created a solar system calculator which estimates the size and cost of the solar system your home would need, using only your average electric bill and location.
