512GB ASUS ROG Phone is 2.96 GHZ, Has A 90Hz Refresh Rate

ASUS has developed the ROG phone for gamers (ROG refers to their Republic Of Gamers brand). The phone offers up to 512GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, a 2.96GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor (8-core), and a 4,000 mAh (4 Ah) battery. That translates to a capacity of 14.8 Wh (if it’s a standard 3.7 Volt battery).

Note that the power consumption of the phone impacts battery life just as much as the battery capacity. A larger battery won’t necessarily result in longer battery life.

The ROG phone is equipped with a 6″ AMOLED display capable of an impressive 90 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (this means its 1080p/full HD). ASUS claims that this phone ameliorates the issue of ‘blurry ghosts trailing behind moving objects’ on some phones with high refresh rates, thanks to the use of AMOLED technology with a 1ms response time.

Despite cramming all that power and RAM into the phone, ASUS still found room for a headphone jack, dual front-facing stereo speakers, dual rear cameras, a fingerprint sensor, and three ultrasonic buttons called AirTriggers for improved control.

The ASUS ROG phone comes with a USB-C port — A step towards faster data transfer rates and shorter recharge times. A USB-C phone won’t necessarily charge faster than a USB 3.0 phone, but USB-C ports are capable of handling the large currents required for fast charging, if the phone does have support for fast charging built in.

USB-C (otherwise known as USB 3.1) ports are also capable of data transfer rates of 10 Gbps, great for external USB drives (faster backups) and data transfers in general. To expand functionality, there is also a mobile desktop dock available for the ROG phone so you can easily connect your favourite ROG accessories, keyboard, secondary screen, extra battery, gaming console-like controls, among other things.

I don’t have any pricing information yet, but you can look out for the launch of this phone in Q3 of 2018!
