Advanced Headlamps Help Volkswagen Arteon Become Top Safety Pick

The 2020 Volkswagen Arteon has now obtained the status of an IIHS top safety pick, and an improved headlamp design helped it get there.

There are 6 ‘crashworthiness’ ratings that must all be ‘Good’ in order for a car to become an IIHS Top Safety Pick. The 2019 Arteon fell short of being a top safety pick because its 3 headlamp variations got a ‘Poor’ rating.

The 2020 Arteon, however received ‘Good’ ratings for the curve-adaptive projector headlights offered in the SEL, SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line trims. The Premium R-Line trim earned extra credit for high-beam assist.

Unfortunately, the basic SE trim did not receive the ratings required to make it a Top Safety Pick because the headlamps offered with that trim aren’t as good.
