OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT chat bot is expected to launch a competitor to Google Search soon, according to a Reuters report. OpenAI hasn’t announced it. However, it would be a fascinating announcement if true.
ChatGPT has already taken the world by storm as an alternative to Google Search, despite lacking certain qualities such as showing several search results that offer different perspectives, additional details, and discussion threads that provide context or other important information (for example: Stack Overflow).
GPT 4, the technology powering ChatGPT has powerful language processing capabilities that would enable it to accurately interpret both a user’s search query and websites to return highly relevant results.
A search engine that can understand your query as well as ChatGPT could therefore be an incredibly powerful tool. It’s ability to understand English on a deep level should also help it to detect and filter spam from search results.
ChatGPT was the fastest app to reach 100 million users since its launch in 2022. Users who want to avoid AI hallucinations or learn from multiple perspectives (including myself) are likely to be among the first to try this search engine if it is launched.
