Samsung has released its latest generation of Z Flip foldable phones — The Z Flip 7. The devices were announced at its Summer Unpacked event.
Joining the release of the Z Flip 7 is the Z Flip 7 FE — This is the first time Samsung is offering a Fan Edition of the Z Flip series of phones.
The Z Flip 7 FE costs $899, which is significantly cheaper than the Z Flip 7’s $1,099 price tag. $899 is a significant reduction. However, it is still not a budget phone.
The Z Flip 7 FE’s specs make it similar to the older Z Flip 6 (except it has 4 GB less RAM than the Z Flip 6 and the Exynos 2400 chipset, which is slower ), with a 6.7 inch main screen and a 3.4 inch cover screen. Storage options range from 256 GB to 512GB. It has three cameras. A 10 Megapixel (MP) one at the front, a 12 MP ultrawide camera, and a 50 MP wide-angle camera.
The Samsung Z Flip 7 smartphone offers an impressive 6.9 inch main screen and a 4.1 inch AMOLED cover screen — both of which offer twice the refresh rate of 120Hz.
What is a refresh rate? The refresh rate of a phone is how many times the contents of the screen are updated per second. A higher refresh rate translates to a smoother user experience — especially when scrolling.
The 2,600 nits of peak brightness and 4,300 mAh battery put the cherry on top, making this an impressive phone that competitors will have to contend with. The 6th generation of the Z Flip’s cover screen had a peak brightness of 1,600 nits.
What is peak brightness? Peak brightness refers to the maximum brightness a phone’s screen can achieve. However, the peak brightness ratings of phones are often for a limited time and they have to turn their brightness back down automatically to prevent overheating.
