Dubai Police Officers Get BMW i8 PHEVs

Police officers in Dubai, UAE have gotten BMW i8 performance cars to chase down the quickest of criminals. These are $136,000 USD plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) which can accelerate from 0-62 MPH in 4.4 seconds with the assistance of their 3-cylinder gasoline engines. Dubai already has many expensive supercars, including the multi-million dollar Bugatti Veyron. The BMW i8 is one of their cheaper, and more fuel-efficient options at 112 MPG.

Chris Bruce from Autoblog commented:

‘With a total output of a mere 357 horsepower, the i8 is practically the economy entry in the Dubai Police fleet that includes a Bugatti Veyron and McLaren MP4-12C.’

It’s understandable that their vast collection of supercars could help high-speed police chases, but are they really worth it? Imagine the crime reduction that could take place by increasing police presence in areas overrun by criminals. This money could be used for many things. Hopefully these cars are more helpful than they appear to be.
