The Tesla Model 3 has quickly become Tesla’s most important car, outselling all previous Tesla cars by a massive margin. The Tesla Model 3’s high sales figures made it the car that helped electric vehicles leap towards mainstream status. The lower price is a key reason.
Tesla sold more than 139,730 Model 3 cars in 2018, and has now started production in China. The Shanghai-based Gigafactory is already producing Model 3 cars at a rate of 1,000 per week, according to Tesla. Hopefully sales will be strong enough to justify greater production and get more electric cars on China’s roads.
Whether the Chinese car market likes the Model 3 as much as the U.S. or Norwegian market remains to be seen! (Norway has one of the highest EV adoption rates of all and they love the Model 3).
