The popular game Cyberpunk 2077 has been updated to include full ray tracing via Overdrive Mode. This results in gorgeous, highly realistic lighting and reflections. The patch incorporating the update is 1.62.
Ray tracing is a computer graphics rendering concept that enables games to generate reflections that simulate those in real life, resulting in higher fidelity and more realistic lighting. NVidia graphics cards started including hardware ray tracing with their RTX 2000 series graphics cards a few years ago.
Cyberpunk 2077 has had partial ray tracing for a while. However, this new update improves upon that by making the direction and other properties of in-game reflections more accurate and realistic. For now, it is only the PC version of Cyberpunk that offers this update and it is currently resource intensive — resulting in significantly reduced frame rates/poor performance. This new feature is currently only available for the NVidia RTX 4070 ti and higher models.
Future updates and (especially) future graphics card models will handle this better as they catch up to the high processing power requirements of full ray tracing.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world role playing action game set in a dystopian high tech future.
