The new Ford Mustang Mach-E is equipped with updated batteries that provide it with enhanced driving range. The model with the standard battery now offers 250 miles of range for rear-wheel drive and 226 miles for dual-motor all-wheel drive models.
The new batteries are lithium iron phosphate and contain no nickel nor cobalt. The use of nickel and cobalt in batteries has long been a thorn in the side of electric vehicles and their promise to be more sustainable. The issue was also frequently raised by EV opponents due to the locations they are obtained from and the conditions the miners are subjected to.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E — sold in 37 countries, will also recharge faster and is having its production boosted, which will hopefully lower prices via economies of scale. These are all the most important issues to electric vehicle buyers, aside from the cost of maintenance (especially battery replacement).
