Google Pixel May Double As A Dashcam In The Future

An upcoming Personal Safety Update for Google Pixel phones may enable you to use your Pixel phone as a dashboard camera. The feature, called ‘Dashcam’, will enable some users to skip the purchase of a dedicated dashcam and save quite a bit of money. I said ‘some’ users because it isn’t feasible to leave your phone in your car when it’s parked. This means that people who use dashcams even when their cars are parked won’t have their needs met entirely by the Pixel Dashcam feature.

It’s also worth noting the Pixel has a better quality camera than some dashcams. Aside from the benefits of using a dashcam while parked (such as catching people from hit and run cases, car vandals, and car thieves), the Pixel Dashcam feature can still capture the actions of other drivers or unruly officers while driving. That is valuable to the many people who don’t already have a dashcam. It appears that the Pixel Dashcam feature was accidentally launched early in the app store.
